NCB Studio School exceeds all expectations at official opening ceremony

Friday, 22 November 2013

Students, staff and special guests including Deputy Mayor of Basildon, Cllr Danny Lawrence, celebrated the official opening of New Campus Basildon Studio School on Friday 22 November 2013.

Jasmine & Students Open the School

Student Reece Clarke, 14, and Principal Jasmine West cut the ribbon in front of a packed crowd at the School, located in Basildon town centre at Church Walk House, Great Oaks.

Jasmine West and David Curtis, Studio School Officer for the Department for Education, both addressed the audience in addition to Studio School students Emma Samuels, 18, and Karina Askew, 16.

Emma, who previously attended Bromfords School and lives in Wickford, said: “I love coming to this school each day. The teachers and students are very friendly and I get on well with everyone already. The work experience I am doing is also helping me to get a feel for the career I want in the long run. My decision to come here was the best one I’ve ever made.”

Karina, who also previously attended Bromfords School and lives in Basildon, said: “I want to be a paramedic or a midwife. The school has helped me change my attitude towards learning and towards life. I love attending each day and get on well with different members of staff.”

Reece previously attended The Billericay School and lives in Langdon Hills.

David Curtis added: “It’s been really refreshing to see young people speak so articulately and passionately about their school. Moving to a new school is always a big decision, but it is clear to see that students at NCB Studio School believe they have made the right choice.”

Studio Schools provide young people aged 14 to 19 of all abilities with the opportunity to study key qualifications such as GCSEs, BTECs and A-Levels alongside gaining real-life work experience through weekly industry placements.

NCB Studio School specialises in Early Years, Health & Social Care and Sport – identified key employment sectors in Basildon.

The School – whose motto is ‘exceed all expectations’ - welcomed the first students through its doors in September.

Young people and their parents interested in finding out more about NCB Studio School are invited to attend Information Events at Church Walk House on Tuesday 25 February and Tuesday 1 April 2014, 5-7pm.
