Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma
The course deals with the scientific themes and concepts of sport and exercise science. It aims to provide studies in sport which are directly related to the changing needs of employers in specific areas of the sport
You will cover a range of topics, including:
- Anatomy for Sport & Exercise
- Sport & Exercise Physiology and Psychology
- Fitness Testing
- Exercise Health & Lifestyle
- Sports Nutrition
- Practical Team Sport
- Exercise for specific groups
- Sports Biomechanics
- Sport & Exercise Massage
- Sports Coaching
- Sport Injuries.
How will I learn?
You will learn through a combination of theory and practical work e.g. coaching and fitness instruction.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written assignments and through giving presentations.
General Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at Grade C or above, or a Merit in a relevant Level 2 qualification. You will be required to sit an initial assessment and provide a reference, and will be expected to attend a guidance interview at the School.
Specific Entry Requirements
You will need to enjoy sports, and have the desire to improve your own personal fitness. You must be willing to work within a team, and be prepared to develop your personal qualities. You must be enthusiastic, energetic and show an interest in developing a range of skills and techniques that will help you in gaining employment in the sports and leisure industry.
What could I do next?
You could progress into an Apprenticeship, Higher Education to study a HNC, HND, Foundation Degree or degree. You could also enter employment within the Sports and Fitness industries including Sports Education, Coaching, Sports Massage Therapies, Fitness Instruction & Personal Training.
